Dean Elwayne Koeppen, 93, formerly of South Sioux City, NE passed away on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Heartland Care Center in Marcus, Iowa.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday, May 29, 2024, at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home. Visitation and a light lunch will be held from 12:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the Marcus - Amherst Cemetery in Marcus, IA. Arrangements are under the direction of Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home.
Dean was born September 20, 1930, in rural Galva township, son of William and Freida (Guldensupp) Koeppen. He lived with his family in the Galva-Holstein area where he attended Galva Schools. Later he moved to Cherokee, IA where he was employed at Lundell Manufacturing Company. In 1962, Dean moved to Golden, CO, where he worked at Boise Cascade Paper Company and did construction work. On March 3, 1962, Dean married Mabel Donker in Golden, CO. They lived in Golden until 1969, when they moved to South Sioux City, NE. Dean was employed by Iowa Beef of South Sioux City and Nebraska By-Products in Sioux City until 1988, when he retired.
Survivors include his brother Glenn (Carol) of Lakewood, CO, sister Virginia Smith of Sebastian, TX; sisters-in-law: Monica Koeppen of Milford, IA and Dorothy Koeppen of Brooklyn Center, MN; and several nieces and nephews.
Dean was preceded in death by his parents, wife Mabel, brothers Erick and his wife Fern, Harold, Bernhardt, and Harlan and his wife Leona.
