Dean Mochel Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Zahoran Funeral Home - South Bend on Mar. 4, 2025.
Dean Paul Mochel, 66, passed away on March 1, 2025 after an extended illness. Dean was born on March 16, 1958 to the late Dale and Rosemary Mochel in South Bend, Indiana and lived there all his life.
He graduated from North Liberty High School in 1976. Dean worked in his own business as a long haul truck driver with his pal, Sean Thornton, who was tragically killed in 1979. Dean then went to work as a mechanic and truck driver for Slatetile Roofing. When Dean's dad offered him a job to drive the company truck for Michiana Carpet Supplies, Dean accepted and made deliveries until he was promoted to company salesman in 2000. Dean remained with the company after it was sold to E.J. Welsh until his stroke in October 2021 forced him to retire.
On June 11, 1994 he married the former Barbara Freel and became a dad to her son, Chad. Dean leaves behind his wife Barb of 30 years, stepson Chad (Corinne), grandchildren Brianna, Hannah, and Bentley, stepbrother Larry (Sandy) Molnar, niece Samantha (Kelby) Wendzel, nephew Alex Molnar. He also leaves behind Xavier and Alex McNutt who really weren't his grandsons, but he thought of them as such.
Preceding Dean in death were his parents Rosemary and Dale, paternal grandparents Omer and Marie Mochel and maternal grandparents Paul and Mary Szabo, and a cousin Bonnie Jo Sikorski.
Viewing will take place on Saturday, March 8, 2025 from 9-11am in Plymouth Baptist Church, 11345 9A Road Plymouth, IN 46563, with services to follow. Interment will take place in Woodland Cemetery. Zahoran Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Online condolences can be shared at www.zahoran.com.
