Dean Putt

Dean Putt was born November 18, 1923, and passed away on January 1, 2025, at 101 years old.
He was a devoted, loving family man who sacrificed not only financially but also tirelessly dedicated his time commitments to make sure that each of us felt secure and were prepared to meet whatever our future held. He was married to Eileen Merriman Putt, now deceased. He had a great sense of humor and a kind spirit for friends and neighbors. He is survived by his daughters, Shirley Babcock and Melanie Augustine, and son-in-law, Estel George. His daughter, Deana, preceded him in death. He has five grandchildren, Carey Babcock, Brock Babcock, Maddie Augustine, Natalee George, and Eric George. He has nine great-grandchildren.
First and foremost, he was a farmer by profession, but his love of farming went much further than that. He enjoyed living on the farm and helping neighbors whenever anyone needed help, such as harvesting another farmer's fields if that person was ill and couldn't get the crops out. He held many other jobs when he wasn't farming. He worked for the post office, was a realtor, and managed bin sites for the county extension office.
He was a man who participated in sports in his youth, having played Remington High School basketball. He also played baseball and became a huge follower of the New York Yankees in his later years. He fulfilled his competitive nature by taking up golf at Curtis Creek. His love of euchre provided many entertaining hours with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing pool. Writing poetry came straight from his heart. He wrote not only poems about his family members but also wrote poems for special occasions in Rensselaer such as his remembrance of the Jasper County Fair as it was one hundred years ago. He participated in other civic ceremonies such as laying a brick in the town square.
Dean Putt was a man who did whatever he could do to help anyone around him when he saw a need. Rest in peace. We were blessed to have you in our lives.
Friends may call on the family at the First Christian Church of Rensselaer on Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM CT. A Funeral Service will be held immediately following at 12:00 PM CT with Marcia Smith Wood officiating. Interment will take place at Weston Cemetery. Jackson Funeral Chapel of Rensselaer has been entrusted with the arrangements.
