Obituary published on Legacy.com by Buck Funeral Home, Inc - Norfolk on Feb. 22, 2026.
NORFOLK- Deatta E. Chapin, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026 at Canton-Potsdam Hospital with family by her side.

Deatta was born in Potsdam, New York on March 27, 1938 to Howard Paro and Arlene Wright Paro Wagstaff, and attended Potsdam Central School. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Howard Paro, Jr., and her sons Michael Chapin and William Chapin.

Deatta is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Donald G. Chapin; son Steven (Kathy) Chapin of Macedon, NY; daughter Tammy (Daniel) Morris of Apollo Beach, FL; son Dale "Skip" Chapin of Norfolk, and her nine beloved grandchildren Cindy (Don) Koscak of Potsdam; Chad Morris (Amy Lopez) of Sarasota, FL; Adam (Ashley) Chapin of Newark, NY; Trevor Morris of Houston, TX; Christopher Chapin of Potsdam; Justin "JC" Morris (Kaleigh Arens) of Parrish, FL; Kevin (Alissa) Chapin of New Haven, CT; Ashley (Josh) Eng of Norwood; and Andrew (Kaitlin) Chapin of Massena. She is also survived by eleven great-grandchildren and daughter-in-law Carol Chapin, sister-in-law Shirley Aldous, brother-in-law Harold Chapin, numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

Deatta was an avid reader and also enjoyed watching television (particularly Judge Judy!), doing ceramics, browsing at local thrift stores, visiting or playing cards with friends and family, and going to the casino on occasion. She especially enjoyed attending the various sporting events of her grandchildren. Deatta loved the many pets that she and her family had throughout the years, and was well known for spoiling them! She worked at the Bon-Ton Store in Massena for several years before retiring, and had previously worked for Loblaws Supermarket in Potsdam, Potsdam Dry Cleaners, and the Norfolk Paper Mill.

Per Deatta's request, there will be no services; a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Please consider a donation to any local cancer organization in memory of this wonderful woman who will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Arrangements are with Buck Funeral Home, Norfolk. Memories and condolences may be shared online at www.buckfuneralhome.com.
