Debbi Weiland, 67, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2024, in Appleton, Wisconsin. Debbi was born on April 11, 1957, in Medford, Wisconsin, the daughter of Allan and Midge (Margaret Weber) Thielke.
Debbi attended Medford High School, where she showcased her talents as a synchronized swimmer, cheerleader, and baton thrower. Her vibrant spirit shone brightly when she was crowned Medford Mink Princess, a true testament to her charm and grace. Debbi graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, where she pursued a dual degree in Elementary and Special Education, teaching in various schools in Wisconsin and Missouri. Debbi married the love of her life, Wayne Weiland, on Friday, August 13, 1982. Together, they crafted a beautiful life filled with laughter, adventure and a deep love. Their home on Lake Holcombe became a sanctuary that echoed with joyful memories of serene moments spent boating on the lake. It was a gathering place for family and friends to enjoy the north woods and all the outdoor activities. Debbi was immensely proud of her family, cherishing the role she played as a mother and grandmother. She lovingly supported and attended her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, always being their greatest cheerleader.
Debbi was a remarkable homemaker and true social butterfly, her home was a hub of laughter as she radiated happiness while surrounded by her loved ones. The kitchen was the heart of her home. Her famous Scotcharoos and chocolate chip cookies were legendary, bringing comfort and smiles to all. Nobody ever left hungry or wanting for more. She was an avid entertainer and held many gatherings for sporting events, where the excitement of company took precedent over the game itself. Debbi thrived in a bustling household, reflecting her belief that “the more, the merrier.” The family maintained season passes for Wisconsin Badger Football and she loved watching the marching band perform. She brought an infectious warmth and generosity to all her interactions, forming deep and lasting friendships with coworkers and neighbors wherever she went. She was known everywhere for her radiant smile and warm and inviting hugs. Debbi was a true Christmas enthusiast and began planning and preparing as early as July. She insisted on a total home redecorating effort by October every year. All this to enjoy entertaining friends and family over the holidays. She was also undeniably a beach goddess, finding solace in the sun and surf during annual vacations to the Caribbean.
Debbi is survived by her loving husband Wayne; daughter Chelsea (Ryan) Mielke of Waupun, WI and grandchildren Bryce and Brynlee; daughter Christine (Marshall) Watry of Greenville, WI and grandchildren Kendall, Camden, Harper and Hadley; son Scott (Hillary) Weiland of Naples, FL and grandchildren Parker and Hunter; mother Margaret Thielke; sister Susan (Nanette Hoover) Thielke and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
