Debbie Lynn (Schomp) Whetstone, a beloved 75-year-old resident of Taloga, Oklahoma, passed from this life on July 15, 2025, in Seiling, Oklahoma. Debbie was born on August 4, 1949, in Taloga to Jacob Dale and Grace Huberta (Walker) Schomp. She grew up in Taloga, attending Taloga Public Schools and graduating with the Class of 1968. On December 7, 1968, she married the love of her life, Larry Whetstone, at the First Christian Church in Taloga. Together they built a life rooted in love and dedication, raising their two children, Darren and Kenya. Debbie's early work included helping at the Taloga Grocery Store for Earl Cline. Later, she moved to Tulsa to attend cosmetology school, returning to Taloga after graduation to pursue her career as a hairstylist. She eventually joined the City of Taloga workforce, where she served her hometown for many years. Debbie's devotion to her community extended far beyond her job titles. She served as Ambulance Director for Taloga EMS for 18 years, offering care and compassion to those in need. She also personally drove her son, mother, and sister to their chemotherapy treatments, always putting others before herself. Before retiring, she worked in Public Relations for Western Medical. Family was truly Debbie's pride and joy. She loved cheering on her grandkids at baseball, basketball, softball, and horse shows, and she was always eager to listen to Darren sing. She especially enjoyed Christmas shopping and the occasional trip to the casino. Debbie was active in the Taloga EMS Auxiliary and the Taloga Firewomen Auxiliary, and her family was once honored as "Family of the Year." She was a lifelong member of the Taloga First Christian Church, being baptized on February 21, 1964. Debbie was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Grace Schomp; her sister, Judy Newkirk; and her five brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. She leaves behind her devoted husband of 56 years, Larry Whetstone of the home; her son, Darren Whetstone of Vici, OK; her daughter, Kenya Stout and husband Mike of Cashion, OK; four grandchildren: Melaina Barrera and husband Wyatt of Woodward, OK, Kaydan Whetstone of Woodward, OK, and Kiaser and Dyllan Stout of Cashion, OK; and two great-grandsons, Brooks and Briggs Barrera of Woodward, OK. She is also survived by her special daughter, Jackie Whetstone of Vici, OK; her brother, Rex Schomp of Tulsa, OK; three brothers-in-law, Danney Whetstone and wife Donna, Randy Whetstone and wife Christine, and Merle Whetstone; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Debbie will be remembered for her servant's heart, her fierce love for her family, and the joy she found in watching her babies, grandbabies, and great-grandbabies. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Taloga / Seiling EMS or Taloga Fire Department c/o Shaw Funeral Home P.O. Box 276 Vici, OK 73859.
