Debora Ayers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Serenity Funeral Care on Jul. 24, 2025.
It is with profound sadness that we share the passing of Debora Gale Ayers, (nee Steinmetz) who went to heaven on Tuesday, July 22, 2025. Her loving husband never left her side. After a long, hard and painful battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, she can now breathe freely.

Debora was born on April 29, 1955, in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late George and Margaret Steinmetz. She attended St. Clement School and went on to graduate from Our Lady of Angels High School (now Roger Bacon) where she met Jerry. They got married on her birthday in 1978 and traveled the world for the next 12 years. Shortly after, they moved to Fort Thomas, KY where they raised their pride and joy, Anna and Michael.

She was a bright light, bringing joy and laughter wherever she went. She lived her life full of kindness and selflessness, always putting everyone's needs before her own. She loved to work out, go to the beach, host Sunday dinners with her family, read her books at the Ft. Thomas Swim Club, and sip on rum and cokes with her best friends Janet Brockman and Linda Putt. But her greatest joy of all was spending time with her family.

She is survived by the love of her life of 47 years, Jerry Ayers, and her two beautiful children, Anna (Taylor) Reasoner and Michael (Macy) Ayers. Her grandchildren Caroline, Patrick, and another grandchild arriving in October. She is also survived by her siblings, Mark (Colleen) Steinmetz, Rick (Clara) Steinmetz, Donna (Dan) Paolercio, Tom (Pam) Steinmetz.

The family would like to thank Bluegrass Care Hospice, especially nurse Tabi, for their unwavering support and excellent care during her final months. As well as, Dr. Vishal Jivan and Dr. Christian Gausvik at The Christ Hospital, and Dr. Sameep Sehgal at The Cleveland Clinic. We are forever grateful to everyone that stopped by with a meal, sent a card, texted/called us, and prayed for her.

Today may seem a little dimmer without Mom's smile and energy, but her spirit lives on in the heart of her husband, children, grandchildren, and many loving friends.

Dear Mom- you fought the good fight and did a hell of a job raising us. Now it's our turn to reflect that same love, strength and care with our own children. Til we meet again for some drinks and dinner. Cheers! You will always be with us wherever we go. We love you forever. -Anna & Michael

Jerry and Family,
Debbie was my first friend when I moved to Sullivan Ave. We were 6 years old, so I have a life time of fond memories spent with Debbie and our many friends. She was a special person and will be missed.

Jerry and family, I am so very sorry. I have great fun memories of being friends with Debbie through grade school and high school. We were proud to be on the first St. Bernard swim team and enjoyed that for years. I am sending prayers and will hold onto the fun memories I made with her and our other friends.
