Debora Thomsen Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2025.
Debora L. Good Thomsen, Ph.D., beloved wife, mother, professor, and adventurer, passed away peacefully on August 28, 2025, at age 75.

Born in California, Debora lived a life defined by curiosity, compassion, and creativity. She raised two children, Jonathan and Sandra, while pursuing her education with quiet determination. She earned her Ph.D. in Health Education from Oregon State University, where she met Brett Thomsen, her husband and partner of 34 years.

As a professor at Central Missouri State University, Debora inspired students with her honesty, humor, and genuine passion for learning. Her work in HIV/AIDS prevention education earned her the Governor's Award for Excellence, reflecting her dedication to public health. Students remembered her as a brilliant and encouraging teacher whose influence reached well beyond the classroom.

A natural storyteller, Debora expressed creativity through community theater, writing, and a deep love of books and films. She acted in local productions and achieved a lifelong dream when one of her plays was produced at Port Townsend community theater. Whether on stage, on the page, or in the classroom, she had a gift for bringing stories to life.

With Brett, Debora embraced exploration. They spent summers at Mount Rainier, where Brett worked as a ranger, and lived for more than a decade abroad in Slovakia, Spain, India, and Croatia. Wherever she went, Debora immersed herself in local culture, welcomed friends and students into her home, and formed lasting connections. She was generous, kind, and thoughtful-always ready to listen, encourage others, and remind people to slow down and savor the journey.

Debora was preceded in death by her daughter, Sandra. She is survived by her husband Brett; son Jonathan and wife Colleen; and a wide circle of family, friends, and students worldwide.
