Deborah Craft Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jones-Preston Funeral Home - Paintsville on Dec. 20, 2025.
Deborah C. Craft, age 74, of Lowmansville, KY, wife of Scott S. Craft, passed away Thursday, December 18, 2025 in her home, surrounded by her beloved family. She slipped away peacefully to go to her eternal reward after a brief illness.

Debbie was born Deborah Lynn Castle on October 10, 1951, in Paintsville, Kentucky. She was the only child, and pride and joy, of her parents, the late Bruce and Jean Chandler Castle of Lowmansville. Debbie grew up in Lowmansville with her doting parents, enjoying a joyous childhood surrounded by loving family and friends in the beautiful backdrop of the hills of eastern Kentucky. Countless nearby collateral relatives and a bevy of close-knit neighbors formed a genuine community of love and learning for Debbie. Ultimately she was a proud graduate of Louisa High School, class of 1968, where she formed what would prove to be lifelong friendships filled with love and support, then attended the University of Kentucky. Debbie was a member of the band and a majorette during her time in both high school and college and a classically trained pianist. Her lifelong joy from music was a particular passion she spent countless hours sharing with others, and later she performed her virtuoso pianist skills in settings ranging from community dramatic productions to church services. She was particularly in demand for honoring others by playing for their funerals, leaving their family and friends comforted and uplifted in their time of need.

Debbie was married to Scott on December 27, 1971, at Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church in Paintsville. Their great love endured for just shy of fifty-four years, and remained as new and fresh at the end as it was in the celebratory beginning. Debbie and Scott lived in Paintsville for decades before relocating in later years to Debbie's ancestral homeplace in Lowmansville. Their home in both was known the area over as place full of love and laughter, of celebration and music, and even some tears of fellowship and comfort. It remained a place through the years where countless others formed lifelong memories of a grand time and words of sage wisdom. She will be deeply missed by all the family and friends she leaves behind, who will never forget her sharp wit, effortless grace, sense of style, and complete comfort in any setting.

Debbie was preceded in death by her beloved parents, and before their parting she ensured their final years were as comfortable as possible. She is survived by her husband, Scott, along with an extended family who will struggle to fill the void her absence leaves behind. Of all the things she was, a true lady is perhaps the cleanest summation, and the world lost one of its finest examples of those when Debbie passed.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 27, 2025 in the Jones-Preston Funeral Chapel with Entombment to follow at the Highland Memorial Park, Staffordsville, Kentucky. Friends may visit the Jones-Preston Funeral Home Friday, December 26, 2025 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Mayo Memorial United Methodist Church by contacting the Jones-Preston Funeral Home at 606-789-3501.

Jones-Preston Funeral Home is both Honored and Privileged to be Entrusted with all funeral arrangements for Mrs. Deborah Lynn Castle Craft.
