Deborah Lee Whiteman Gentzler, affectionately known as Debbie to her cherished family and friends, was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on February 21, 2026. Born on the 20th of December, 1954, in
San Antonio, Texas, to parents Harold J. Whiteman and Emily Parks, Debbie was the youngest of five siblings. Shortly after she was born, her family moved to Europe as her father continued his service in the United States Air Force. Her family lived in Europe for many years before returning to the U.S., where they continued to move around the country before finally settling back in
San Antonio, Texas.
Debbie was a proud graduate of Texas A&M University. Her professional journey was as varied as it was impactful. Debbie spent many years in architecture before pursuing several small businesses that allowed her to stay home and raise her two children. Later, Debbie decided to pursue a career in education and become a teacher. This would prove to be her most rewarding job, as she had the opportunity to shape the minds and hearts of her students with patience and wisdom.
Beyond her professional life, Debbie was a devout Christian, living her faith through her actions and words. She found strength and solace in her relationship with God, and her faith was an ever-present source of comfort to her and inspiration to others. Of her many interests, gardening, watching golf, and drinking coffee were her most favorite, but what brought her the most joy was her family.
She was a loving mother to Christopher and Samantha, a cherished mother-in-law to Felicia and Austin, and an adored Nana/Gran to Carlee, Mason, and Isla. Her brother Sandy, sister-in-law Reba, sister Elizabeth, brother-in-law Jeff, and sister Margaret, along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members all held special places in her heart. She is preceded in death by her parents and eldest sister, Emily. We take comfort in the knowledge that Debbie is fully healed in heaven and that her spirit lives on in the many lives she has touched.
