Deborah Sue Kozel

Deborah Sue Kozel (nee Fischer), of Maryland Heights, MO, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2025, at the age of 79. Beloved wife of James J. Kozel, Jr.; cherished daughter of the late Albert and Esther Anna Fischer; devoted mother of Amy (Daniel Bauer) Jolly, Tara (Ken Somogyi) Matthews; loving stepmother of Denise Kozel; sister of Sharon (Richard) Niemeyer; treasured grandmother of Hannah Jolly, Sarah Jolly, Ryan Jolly, Paige Matthews, Mia Matthews, Sophia Groff; loving great-grandmother of Jameson Groff and step-grandmother of Ashley Kozel. Deborah is preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Lou Schikore, and her son, Todd Burns.

People were naturally drawn to Debbie—she was always giving, always caring, and always dressed to the nines in vibrant colors. A devoted and loving wife to Jim, she was an extraordinary Nana who treasured every moment spent with her grandchildren. She served as a steadfast role model to her children, offering unwavering support and presence while gracefully balancing her own career. Her love for animals was lifelong, and they remained an important and cherished part of her world.
