Ms. Deborah D. "Bunny" Lamberson, age 73, of 2711 S. Crater Road, peacefully departed this life on January 29, 2026, at Colonial Health and Rehabilitation Center in
Colonial Heights, Virginia.
Deborah was born on March 19, 1952, in
Petersburg, Virginia, to the late Raymond Sr. and Rosa Lee Freeman. She was educated in the Petersburg Public School System and later earned her GED, a milestone she was proud to achieve.
She married Melvin Hardy and relocated to Fairfax County, Virginia, where she pursued a career in accounting, a profession she truly enjoyed. While in Fairfax, she was employed by Mantec for several years. During this time, Deborah found love again, remarried, and eventually returned to her beloved Petersburg, where she worked at Fort Lee, serving at the post exchange (PX) and the Department of ABC on base.
Through her work and life, Deborah formed countless friendships and acquaintances. She never met a stranger or forgot a face and had a gift for conversation-able to connect with anyone over even the simplest topic. She took pride in being a people person. Her career came to an end following a sudden illness, after which she retired.
Deborah accepted Christ at an early age and was a former member of the Good Shepherd Baptist Church in
Petersburg, Virginia. She found joy in watching Court TV, game shows, and football-especially cheering on her favorite team, the Washington Commanders. She had a soft spot for dogs and babies, and a green thumb for her houseplants, each of which she lovingly named. Fittingly, with the nickname "Bunny," she adored anything adorned with rabbits.
Deborah was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond Sr. and Rosa Lee Freeman; her grandmother, Mamie Freeman; an aunt, Margaret Jackson; a dear cousin, Catherine Banks; her only brother, Raymond Freeman Jr.; her dear cousins, James E. Jackson and Virginia "Stell" Jackson Stith; her husband, Cedric "Chauncey" Lamberson; and many other cherished family members too numerous to name.
She leaves to cherish and treasure her memory her nieces, R. Renee Freeman and Ebony Freeman, both of
Petersburg, Virginia; devoted cousins, A. L. Bumbrey and Markus Reynolds of
Petersburg, Virginia; cousins, Gloria Goings (Bill) of Dinwiddie, Virginia, Joyce Robinson of Richmond, Virginia, Rev. Faye Taylor of New York, New York, Lenore Jackson of Pennsylvania, Shalonda Stith and William Jackson (Pam) of North Carolina. She also leaves a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and other extended family members too numerous to name.
Deborah also leaves devoted friends and associates including Claudell Hendricks of Georgia, with whom she shared over 30 years of friendship; Claudette Ridley and Lillian Jackson of Prince George, Virginia; longtime friends Bridget McLachlan, Lois Johnson, Everard "Boogie" Jones and Nadine Williams, all of
Petersburg, Virginia.
In honoring the wishes of Ms. Deborah D. "Bunny" Lamberson, there will be no public viewing or memorial service. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life and honor her memory in their own personal and private ways. To all who knew and loved her, the family extends heartfelt gratitude for the prayers, condolences, and kind expressions of sympathy during this difficult time.
