Deborah "Deb" Lavelle

Stone Ridge - Deborah "Deb" Lavelle, 72, passed away peacefully on August 20, 2025 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was born October 13, 1952 in San Antonio, TX to Shirley Gilliland and the late Charles Gilliland, Deb was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Lavelle.

Deb is survived by her two daughters, Melissa Lavelle and Amy (Daniel) McDonough. She was a cherished grandmother to William Lavelle, who was the light of her life. Deb also leaves behind her brothers, Richard (Margie) Gilliland, Robert (Lynette) Gilliland, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss her dearly.

Debbie had a long and rewarding career at the Eastern NY Correctional Facility in Napanoch, where she worked for many years. Outside of her career, Deb was an avid traveler who found joy exploring the world. She had the privilege of visiting over 20 countries where she immersed herself in the culture and made lasting memories and friendships. Her favorite places to travel were Italy, Spain, and Thailand.

Above all, Deb loved spending time with her family. Summers were especially meaningful to her, as she cherished the moments when her grandson visited.
Cremation was held privately.

A Memorial to Celebrate Deb's life will be held at the George J. Moylan Funeral Home Inc., 2053 Route 32, Rosendale on September 13th, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM. Rev. Arlene Dawber will officiate the service at 12:30 PM. The family invites all who knew and loved her to join in remembering the warmth, kindness, and love Deb shared with the world.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Deb's memory to a cancer charity of your choice.
