Deborah Major Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McWhorter Funeral Home - Gilmer on Jan. 31, 2026.
Memorial services for Deborah Ann Major, 71, of Longview, Texas, will be held at 3:00 pm, Sunday, February 15, 2026, in the Chapel of McWhorter Funeral Home.

Deborah was born on September 20, 1954, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Frank Markowitz and Marjorie Ann Thompson and passed from this life on January 17, 2026, in Longview, Texas.

Born as the oldest child to later have two younger sisters and one younger brother, growing up would prove to be a time of both cherished, fond memories with extended Polish family and also the hardship of a broken home. Relationships were distant and strained at times. Though she wouldn't talk about it often, through the years, her heart withstood the hurt and breakage of multiple family struggles, hard relationships, loss and difficult scenarios. Through it all - she was determined to make something of herself and to build a family that reflected those cherished fond memories from her childhood. She worked very hard to raise kids & grandkids who would carry on the love of family and traditions…who would work hard in all they did and be trustworthy. It wasn't easy but she worked full time and put herself through college all while raising young kids and graduated with her degree in nursing. She devoted herself to a lifetime career - over 30 years- in taking care of others. She was very proud of the ways she got to serve others through her career. Through her career and as a friend, mom and later a grandmother, she found what she felt was her true purpose and a genuine way to give back.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Jessica Arden Major Bennett, and husband Adam Bennett and their children: Olivia, Elijah, and Selah; and her son, Michael Wayne Major and his children: Madisyn and Sophia as well as great-grandson Judah. She also leaves her sister Laura Allison and husband Sam, as well as other grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her father, Frank Markowitz; and her mother, Marjorie Duffey as well as brother Frank Markowitz and sister Tina Covert.
