Deborah Schmidt Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Care - Cloquet on Jan. 30, 2026.
Deborah "Deb" Lynn Schmidt, beloved wife, mother, daughter and sister, passed away peacefully at the age of 61 surrounded by all who loved her late in the evening on January 26th, 2026, in Duluth, Minnesota.

Born on July 16th, 1964, in Duluth, Minnesota, Deb was the daughter of Patricia Carl. She grew up in Barnum with her brother and 2 sisters and graduated from Barnum High School in 1982. Soon after, she moved to the Cloquet area, where she spent her adult life. She most enjoyed working at Super One Foods, where she met her husband Warren, and being involved with Washington Elementary School when her children were young. She continued her education at Duluth Business University and always had a passion for criminal justice.

Throughout her life, Deb was a source of unwavering strength, love, faith, and gratitude for her family and friends. She married Warren Schmidt on August 24th, 1991, and together they built a life filled with cherished memories and countless adventures with their two children, son Jacob (fiancé Mia) and daughter Katelyn (boyfriend Eli). They are eternally grateful for her love and support.

Deb was a woman of many interests and hobbies. Her love for her pet cats, Wiskers and Tabby, was unmatched. She always lived her life with great enthusiasm, enormous amounts of strength, and a sense of humor that touched everyone around her. She will always be remembered for her love of all things outdoorsy, fanaticism for Freddie Mercury, Queen, and Michael Jackson, and connoisseurship of all Robin Williams movies and projects.

Deb is preceded in death by her brother, Michael. In addition to her partner-in-crime of 37 years and their two children, she is survived by her mother Patricia "Pat," sisters, Michelle and Patricia "Patti," and all those who had the privilege to know and love her.

A private visitation will be held on Friday, January 30th, 2026, at Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet at 10 am, followed by a funeral service at 11 am. Interment at Sandy Lake Cemetery will be held in the spring/summer.
