Deborah "Debbie" Louise Flanigan-York, 70, of
Warren, Ohio, passed away on August 23, 2024, after several years long battle with MDS, (adult leukemia).
Debbie was born February 22, 1954, in
Warren, Ohio, the daughter of John and Theresa Flanigan. She graduated from WGH in 1972.
She spent her Sunday mornings worshipping at Believers Church with Pastors Joe and Bill. Debbie gave birth to the first love of her life, Cheryl Flanigan, on October 10, 1975. Debbie loved her daughter more than anyone else on earth and they had an extremely special bond. Debbie was Cheryl's Fae. She then married the second love of her life, Dennis (Denny) York, on Christmas Eve, 1994. Together they created a beautiful, blended family, including Denny's five children and Debbie's one. Debbie spent her life devoted to her husband, her children, and her grandchildren. Nothing was more important than spending time with them, whether it be picnics, parties or hanging out in the kitchen, because she threw the BEST parties. Her home was always the meeting place.
She loved spending time with her sister-in-law, Dolores "Dee", just visiting, reading scriptures, and catching up about life and each other's families. Debbie was a hippie at heart with a love for peace signs and tie dye. No matter how she was feeling, it never got in the way of living every day to the fullest. She had a heart of gold and the biggest, most beautiful smile. Debbie was the strongest person and her will to live was unmatched. She survived tragedies that most people wouldn't. Her doctors referred to her as a Medical Miracle.
She was THE person everyone went to when they needed advice, a hug, or her famous spaghetti. Therapy came easily on her front porch on Edgewood. Her home was known for her passion for flowers and her seasonal and holiday decorations. She had a smile and laugh that was unforgettable. She was just an absolute pleasure to be around. Debbie never met a stranger. Everyone in her community knew and loved her. She knew all her neighbors, spending all of her time on her front porch, including Effie on the left and Alissa on her right, all of them drinking coffee and chitchatting. She had a special relationship with Alissa. Debbie was Alissa's "Lobster" and Alissa was Debbie's "Boo-Boo". Debbie loved sports. On any Friday night in football season, you could find Debbie and Denny walking to the Harding game. Her Saturdays were spent with the Buckeyes and her Sundays and Mondays, she was cheering for the Browns. If there was an Indians game on, she was sure to be watching.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all three siblings, Paul (Dolores Wolbert) Flanigan, Carol Flanigan, John "Jackie" Flanigan, her beloved husband, Dennis (Denny) York and stepdaughter, Sherry York.
Debbie is survived by her only child, her 'Bae', Cheryl Flanigan, her stepson, Dennis, Jr. (Melanie) York, her adored grandchildren and great grandchildren, Taylor (Alex Boley) York, Charles, Jr (Alyssa Donald) Parks, Bentley, Natalie, Renii and Mercii and her cherished nephews, Jason, Zion and Zaidan Flanigan.
A memorial service will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday, September 4, 2024, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
