Debra Applebee Obituary
Debra lived her life in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She graduated from South High School and then attended the U of M receiving a degree in human services, employed as a Nutritionist for 20 years. Debbie always took care of her children, grandchildren and other extended family members. She welcomed all. Sure, she had her favorites. Sewing, gardening, Ojibwe bead working was some on the things she enjoyed doing as a teenager. She was a hoop dancer, later becoming a jingle dancer she also led her children to follow the native customs. Debra was love by several people in the community and lots of organizations. Debbie enjoyed her fun and will always be remembered for her ways.
Survived by her sons: Damon Applebee, Thomas Szmiot and Charles Szmiot; daughter: Jolene Szmiot; brother: Gary Applebee; sister: Lorie Applebee; ten grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; special children: Jorge "Beto" Costillo, Luis "Bunba Lu" Hernandez Cruz, Mystic "Angel Rose" Carlson; along with several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents: Thomas and Melvina Applebee; brothers: Brandon Applebee and Michael Applebee; sister: Linda Applebee; grandson: Andrea Costillo and husband: Butch Star
An all-night visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 beginning at 7:00 P.M. and Thursday, June 6, 2024 beginning at 7:00 P.M. at the Church of Gichitwaa Kateri in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
A Funeral service for Debra Applebee will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 at 11:00 A.M. at the Church of Gichitwaa Kateri in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Honorary Casket Bearers will be Jorje "Beto" Castillo, Brandon Campbell, Charles Szmiot Jr., Richard Campbell, Breanna Johnson, Thomas Szmiot, Jolene Szmiot, Thomas "TJ" Applebee, Fabian "Ano" English, Marisa Love; all other family & friends, who loved her dearly.
Casket Bearers will be Benji Corbiesia, Steven Terry, Jorge "Beto" Castillo, Giovonni Szmiot, Brandon Szmiot, Anthony Costello, Fabian English
