Debra Lynn Coenen, of Hastings, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2025, in Hastings. She was 65. Debra was born on April 13, 1960, in Lansing, Michigan, the daughter of Ford and Ida (Thomas) McGinley.
Debra dedicated much of her working life to caring for others. She retired from Woodlawn Meadows Assisted Living and Memory Care, where her compassion, patience, and genuine concern for residents and coworkers alike were evident every day. Taking care of people was not just her profession—it was who she was.
On July 17, 1992, Debra married Randy Coenen. He preceded her in death in 2002, a loss she carried with strength and grace. She was also preceded in death by her father, Ford McGinley, and her father-in-law, Herman Coenen.
Debra had a lifelong love for Detroit sports and could often be found cheering on her favorite teams. She cherished time spent with friends and family, especially visits with her children, and was happiest when she was doing something for someone else. Her infectious smile, quick wit, and giving heart left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
She is survived by her mother, Ida McGinley; her mother-in-law, Henrietta Coenen; her son, Josh (Jess) Coenen; her daughter, Katie (Elliott) Holzman; her siblings, Tammy (Bud) Wilde, David (Mary) McGinley, Linda McGinley, Bruce Coenen, and Janey (Mark) Kneibel; and a large and loving extended family of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
