Debra Evans Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Twiford Funeral Homes - Elizabeth City on Oct. 24, 2025.
Debra "Debbie" Lynn Barber Evans, age 71, of Elizabeth City, NC, died at her home on Friday, October 24, 2025. She was born in Elizabeth City, NC, on September 14, 1954. She was the daughter of the late Marinia Weeks Upton and William "Billy" R. Upton, Sr., and was the widow of Hallett Frederick "Freddy" Evans, her husband of 53 years, who preceded her in death on December 24, 2024.
Debbie was a member of Ramoth Gilead Baptist Church. Baking was a passion of hers along with collecting recipes and being in the kitchen. But nothing compared to time spent with family. That love for her family was the driving focus of her life. Her grandchildren were the apples of her eye.
She is survived by two daughters, Lynn Renee Braymiller (Brian) and Allison Elizabeth Lavin (Sean); grandchildren, Mackenzie (Kyle), Macie (Hunter), Jaxon, Cayden, and Marlee; three siblings, Vickie Langwell (Johnnie), William "Ricky" Upton, Jr. (Cindy), and Bobby G. Upton; two brothers-in-law, Steve Evans and Kenneth Evans (Shari); and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and all of the special children she babysat for and helped raise. Debbie was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and a brother-in-law, Jeffrey Langwell.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at Twiford Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Ken Littleton officiating. Debbie's service will be live streamed on her obituary page at www.TwifordFH.com. Burial will be at West Lawn Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 – 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 26, 2025 at the funeral home. The family will greet friends at the visitation, immediately following the funeral service, and at all other times at Debbie's residence.
Memorial donations may be made to the Jon Jackson Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o of Karen Jackson, 691 Firetower Road, Elizabeth City, NC 27909.
The family would like to give special thanks to Virginia Oncology and Albemarle Home Care and Hospice for all the love and care they showed their Mom through this difficult time.
