It is with the most profound sense of grief and joy that we announce the passing of Debra E. Hardeman, after years of battling ALS. She died peacefully surrounded by her family.
We are heartbroken that we cannot share her smile and laugh in person any longer but are so thankful and joyful that she is with our Lord and savior, and we were able to share all these years with her.
She had worked at Memorial Hospital for 25 years. Debra was a loving wife, mother and grandmother; was a selfless lady who was a good friend to all who knew her. She had great faith in God!
"We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord." – 2nd Corinthians 5:8
She was preceded in death by her father, Ronald Shope.
Survivors include her loving husband of 47 years and 7 months, Gene Hardeman; sons, Casey Hardeman (Alicia), Ryan Hardeman (Saraeah) and Kevin Hardeman (Krista); grandchildren, Dylin Hardeman, Shelby Hardeman, Lexy Hardeman, Anslea Hardeman, Luke Hardeman, Jacob Hardeman and Aiden Hardeman; mother, Sandra Mills; siblings, Christopher Ronald Shope, Eunice Roberta Bowmen.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to ALS United of GA.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon Monday in the funeral home chapel with Mike Gregg officiating. Interment will follow at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Friday and an hour prior to the service on Monday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
