Debra J. McHugh (Perry) of East Bridgewater passed away suddenly on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025. She was 67 years old.
Debbie was born and raised in Stoughton, and graduated from Stoughton High School in 1976. As a young woman, she met Steven McHugh through mutual friends, who she later married in 1982. Steven and Debbie remained in Stoughton until they built their house in East Bridgewater, where they settled down and raised their three children.
Debbie chose to stay home while her children were growing up, because being a mother was at the heart of who she was. After Debbie's husband passed away, she raised their three children on her own, always focusing on their well-being and showing up for them in both the everyday moments and the milestones. Once the kids had grown up, Debbie went back to school and received her bachelor's degree in sociology from Curry College.
Debbie loved spending time outside, whether that meant going for a walk or taking a camping trip to Maine or Connecticut. Debbie loved to cook and share wonderful meals with her family. She always make the holiday special and created lifelong memories. She was a sweet, bubbly, and loving maternal presence in her children and grandchildren's lives, and will be remembered for her lovely laugh. She will be deeply missed by her loved ones.
Debbie is predeceased by her husband Steven P. McHugh, her parents, Joseph Perry and Jean (Howard), her father-in-law Donald McHugh, and her brothers Johnny, Bobby, and Stevie Perry.
She is survived by her children, Stefanie Fitzgerald and her husband Ryan of Parker, Colorado, Kimberly McHugh and her husband JJ Toland of Duxbury, and Ryan McHugh and his wife Brittany of Castle Rock, Colorado. She was the grandmother of James, Brooklyn, Brielle, Finleigh, Raegan, Brady, Parker, Emelia, and Henry. She also leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Tuesday, July 15th, 2025 from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 35 Spring Street, East Bridgewater, MA 02333. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, July 16th, 2025 at 10:00 AM at Central Cemetery in East Bridgewater.
