Walter Nelson Baker III

Walter Nelson Baker III of West Bridgewater passed away at home surrounded by his loved ones on Thursday, June 12th, 2025. He was 84 years old.
Walter was born in Quincy and eventually his family settled in East Bridgewater. He graduated from East Bridgewater High School in 1958, where he earned the nickname "Choog," and was extremely proud of his time as the football captain for the school from 1957 to 1958. One of his greatest achievements during this time was beating the West Bridgewater High School football team on Thanksgiving day.
Later in life, Walter spent a few years living in New York while working for Hanes Hosiery. After returning home, Walter was a bartender at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club, a position he held proudly for over 25 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Club.
Walter was happiest on the golf course. He loved taking his annual trip to Myrtle Beach, never missed a football or Red Sox game on TV, and adored spending time around his grandchildren. Walter couldn't pass up a drive around town when the weather was nice in his old '67 T-Bird, and had a special place in his heart for antique cars.
Walter fondly referred to himself as the "golden boy". He lit up the room and was always the life of the party. He will be deeply missed by his loved ones.
Walter is predeceased by his parents, Walter Nelson Baker, Jr., and Frances (Melendy), and his sister Doretta Morrissey.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Joanne Baker (Homen) of West Bridgewater. Loving father of Chris Baker and his wife Janine of St. Louis Park, MN, Kim Power and her husband Jay of Bridgewater, and Lauren Coots and her husband Josh of West Bridgewater. Adoring grandfather of Alexis, Sam, Andrew, Sally, Sarah, Henry, Hanna, and Hunter. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to visiting hours on Thursday, June 19th, 2025 at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 35 Spring Street, East Bridgewater, MA 02333 from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM. A celebration of Walter's life will take place following the wake at the East Bridgewater Commercial Club, 1 Neilson Ave, East Bridgewater, MA 02333 from 6:00 PM - 10:00 PM.
