Steven B. Patterson, of Sun City Center, Florida, formerly of Carver and Randolph, Massachusetts, passed away on October 5, 2025, at the age of 76.
Born and raised in Randolph, Steve graduated from Randolph High School in 1967. Shortly after, he proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1967 to 1970. Following his military service, he earned an Associates Degree in Fire Science from Massasoit Community College and began a career as a firefighter with the Town of Randolph.
Driven by a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit, Steve later opened The Town Line Plaza in East Freetown. Later in life he took a position with the Department of Public Works in Duxbury. Even after retiring from municipal work, Steve continued working part time, transporting cars for Enterprise, where he made a few great friends and kept his co-workers laughing.
Steve had a deep appreciation for architecture and design, often sketching out detailed plans for the many upgrades and additions he made to his homes over the years. He had an innate eye for detail and a hands-on approach to every project.Steve loved to golf, even though he often joked that he "sucked at it." Still, he cherished the time spent on the course, especially with his brothers-in-law, Jerry and Bill "Wilbur," whom he considered not just family but lifelong friends. He was known for his dry, sarcastic wit and found amusement in teasing those around him.... His humor was constant and memorable.
In his later years, Steve fulfilled his dream of relocating down south and settled in Sun City Center, Florida. He embraced his retirement by soaking up the Florida sunshine by the pool and on the pickleball court. In retirement, Steve took up day trading with passion and precision. He filled countless notebooks with charts and market strategies and took great satisfaction in tracking the ups and downs of the stock market each day.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rose L. Patterson, who passed away far too young from cancer. Steve often said she was the love of his life and affectionately referred to their marriage as "third time's a charm." He was also predeceased by his mother, Marie P. (Hassett) Mackay, and her husband, John Mackay, his father, Douglas Patterson, and his sister, Karen (Patterson) Moore.
Steve is survived by his three children: Michelle M. (Patterson) DeMoranville and her husband Craig of Ruskin, Florida; Stephanie M. Patterson and her life partner Gilbert Saenz of Coachella, California; and George S. Patterson and his wife Kristen (Searles) Patterson of Fairhaven, Massachusetts, along with their two daughters, Katherine and Bonnie. He also leaves behind his sisters, Susan (Patterson) Hartman and her husband Jerry of Bridgewater, and Marie (Patterson) Eccles of Taunton, as well as his brother-in-law, William "Bill" Moore of Middleboro, the husband of his late sister Karen.
Steve had several nieces and nephews, but had a close connection with his niece, Lenore (Hartman) Tavares of New Bedford. Whether it was their shared sense of humor or her impressive knowledge of finance, their connection was special. The family is especially grateful for the care and love she gave Steve during the final months of his life.
A wake to honor and celebrate Steve's life will be held at Chapman Funerals & Cremations, 98 Bedford Street, Bridgewater, on Friday, October 10th from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to The Alzheimer's Foundation (CLICK HERE) in Steve's memory.
