Debra Potrykus Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Shimon Funeral Home on Jan. 30, 2026.
On the morning of January 27, 2026, Debra M. Potrykus passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by family and love. Throughout her long battle with cancer, Deb remained a true beacon of strength and hope.
Born on September 3, 1961, in Sussex, Wisconsin, Deb was the beloved daughter of Douglas Nettesheim (Clara) and Judiann Shaffer. She is survived by her loving husband, Keith; her father, Douglas (Clara); her children, Andrew (Julie), Ryan, Lisa (Lance), Craig (Amber), and Mitchell (Shandell); and her grandchildren, Madyson, Oscar, Hazel, Charlotte, Felix, Rosalie, Violet, Xena, and Elias, with a great-grandson on the way. She is also survived by her siblings, Scott, Randy (Christine), Tina (Mike), Kurt (Katie), and Amy (Joe). Deb was preceded in death by her mother, Judiann Shaffer.
Deb was a strong, resilient, and courageous woman who faced life's challenges, including her battle with cancer, with remarkable grace and determination. She had a rare gift for finding the positive in every situation and took genuine joy in the little moments that made life meaningful. During difficult times, she turned to her faith and found solace in hearing the Psalms. A loving wife to her devoted husband, Keith, Deb was also a loyal friend, a natural caretaker, and an amazing mother who always seemed to know exactly the right thing to say.
Her bright smile and contagious laughter lit up every room, and she spoke her mind with honesty, confidence, and a deep sense of knowing her own truth. Deb had a presence that made you feel instantly at home - warm, welcoming, and comforting. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, especially cheering from the front row at her grandchildren's sporting events, dance recitals, and school award ceremonies. She built a beautiful life with Keith and cherished traveling the world with him. She found happiness in her favorite hobbies, including sewing, painting, gardening, cooking, and pickleball. Deb's love, warmth, and spirit will be greatly missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
Though Deb has left this world, her love continues to surround us - woven into the lives she touched, the lessons she shared, and the hearts she shaped. She will be forever cherished. Deb, our love for you is endless, and your memory will live on always.
A Celebration of Deb's Life will be held in early spring with more details to come.
