Debra Ann "Debbie" Roy

Stonington - Debra Ann "Debbie" Roy, 65, was born Feb. 13, 1960, in Forest Hills, N.Y. Parents, Elena Roy of Mystic and Ronald Roy (deceased).

She was a student in the Stonington Connecticut Public School system (K-12) and upon completion, transitioned to the Frank Olean Center in Westerly, R.I. She continued her special programs journey at Riverview Farm in Uncasville, where she greatly enjoyed caring for the animals along with art and music therapy. The Equestrian Therapy Program at High Hopes in Old Lyme was an on-going and important organization that supported and enriched Debbie's life.

For many years, she took part in Special Olympics in track, field, and swimming where she achieved success and won over 100 medals. During the World Games, Debbie exhibited her artwork at the Mystic Art Museum.

Debbie loved animals and always found friendship and peace with them. Her family is grateful to all her caregivers throughout her life and the opportunity to form many friendships, especially those she resided with in her group home setting.

Our family is also extremely grateful to the staff at Harbor Village Rehabilitation Center in New London, Beacon Hospice and the ER Yale New Haven/L+M Hospital. Thank you also to staff at Hillside Road who were a big part of her life.

In addition to her mother, Elena Roy, she is survived by her brothers, Ron and Robert Roy; niece, Kayleigh; nephews, Connor, Jonah and Jett Roy. She was predeceased by a nephew, Jackson Kane Roy. Debra is also survived by cousins, Christine Seibert, Corinne Seibert Landeau (Peter), Bill Seibert and godmother, Eileen Deymier O'Brien.

Debbie was a true gift:always happy, always smiling and made us all aware of what special individuals can accomplish. Funeral will be private with a Mass held at her church where she was able to partake in all the Sacraments.
