Frank Roy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Maiorano Funeral Home - Waterbury on Feb. 13, 2026.
Mr. Frank E. Roy, age 101, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at Waterbury Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Dorothy (Ebreo) Roy.

Born on January 11, 1925, in Johnstown, PA, Frank was the son of the late Michele and Nicolina (LaPorta) Petraroia. In 1941, at age 16, Frank came to Waterbury for a summer job and never looked back. In 1943, Frank was drafted into the U.S. Army Air Corp. He was stationed in India, repairing planes for the war in the Pacific. After WWII, he returned to Waterbury, where he met the love of his life, Dorothy, and began their life together. With an unparalleled work ethic, Frank spent most of his career at Robertshaw/Lux Time as a highly respected expert in Swiss Screw Machines. Frank was well-known for his skill and precision. After his retirement in 1990, he taught screw machinery operation at Waterbury Adult Education for almost 30 years until finally retiring in 2019 at the age of 94.

Frank genuinely loved anything that could be built, repaired, or improved. He spent hours in his workshop, bringing his ideas to life. Self-taught in many areas, Frank always had projects happening including house renovations, car repairs, and making corn hole boards and beautiful frame jewelry boxes with his brother Donald.

An avid golfer, bowler, and card player, Frank played cards in a weekly poker game with his friends from the neighborhood for over 20 years and enjoyed his weekly games of pinochle with his brother Don, his nephew David, and his son Michael. In recent years, he loved to play on his IPAD and solve Sudoku puzzles.

Frank's hands were always busy, but it was his warmth that touched others. He was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who worked hard to instill his values and morals in his family. He was simply the kind of person who made life better, one repaired gadget, one clever invention, and one story at a time.

Frank is survived by his children Barbara Cyr of Wolcott with whom he made his home, Michael Roy and his wife Susan of Little River, SC, and Marianne Muckle and her husband Robert of Wolcott; his beloved grandchildren Melissa Carter (Ryan) of Monroe, Emily Moore (Colin) of Fairfield, Dr. Michael Roy (Christopher Rosati) of Dracut, MA, and Dr. Nicole Roy (Steven Maniscalco) of Middletown; and his five cherished great-grandchildren Adelyn, Liam, Jackson, Teagan, and Caden. He also leaves his sister Antoinette Esposito of Pennsylvania and his sister-in-law Olga Roy of Bristol as well as many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. In addition to his beloved wife, Dorothy, Frank was predeceased by his brothers Edmondo Petraroi and Donald Roy.

Frank's funeral will be held on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 10:00am from Maiorano Funeral Home, 95 Willow St., Waterbury to St. Leo the Great Church for a Mass at 11:00am. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday evening from 4:00-7:00pm.
