Debra Kay (Debi) Walters, age 65, of
Morehead, Kentucky, passed away Saturday March 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. Debi was born April 30, 1959, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, to proud parents Ray and Lucille Thompson Walters.
Debi is survived by her two beloved sons, Jamie (Amanda) Ashley of
Morehead, Kentucky, and Jeremy (Jessica) Ashley of
Morehead, Kentucky. Loving brothers and sisters-in-law, Mike and Sharon Walters of
Morehead, Kentucky and Joe Walters and Kit Loney of Charleston, South Carolina. Very special niece, Kim (Paul) Goodpaster and nephews, Steven (Michele) Walters, all of
Morehead, Kentucky, and Andy (Miranda) Roberts of Bowling Green, Kentucky, as well as several great nieces and nephews. Most important of all, her most treasured, beloved 13 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her beloved fur baby Shanky. As well as a long list of special aunts and cousins, as well as many friends made throughout life. The top of that list, her deeply loved best friend for more than 60 years, Lisa Hollan.
Nothing was more important to Debi than family. Her most cherished moments were those spent with the ones she loved most. When she loved, she loved deeply. She loved UK basketball, Atlanta Braves baseball, and Cave Run Lake where she spent many summer days with her boys over the years. She was a very simple lady who found happiness and joy in the small simple things in life. She was a true champion for animal rights, often taking in many stray cats and dogs. She always had to make sure she had bread to feed all the birds. Compassion was in her nature and she never judged anyone on who they were, but how they treated others. She loved music of all kinds, a love of which she passed down to her boys. She loved to laugh, a quality that would come out often, in her silly practical jokes with others.
Debi was a graduate of Morehead State University, with a degree in Social Work. She spent many years working with people with special needs and cherished every moment. Her heart held so much love for those she worked so hard and tirelessly for.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ray and Lucille Thompson Walters; maternal grandparents, James and Carrie Thompson: and paternal grandparents, Wesley and Clara Walters.
A private ceremony will be held by her family at a later date.
