Debroah Hicks Obituary

Debroah E. Hicks

January 9, 1959 - January 10, 2025

Columbus, Georgia - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Debroah Hicks, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who left us peacefully on January 10, 2025. Debroah's life was a testament to love, kindness, and unwavering strength.

Born on January 9, 1959, in Columbus, GA, to Idella S. Thurman and David B. Thurman, Debroah was the cherished daughter who grew up with a deep sense of family and community, values that she carried throughout her life. She was a proud graduate of Columbus High School, where she met the love of her life, Artis L. Hicks. Their 47 years of wedded bliss were a testament to their enduring love and partnership.

Debroah was an amazing wife and mother, as well as a dedicated scholar. She earned her Bachelor of Science from the University of Missouri and a Master's in Library Studies from Drury University. Her passion for learning and education was evident in every aspect of her life.

Debroah's greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted mother to Terrance and Jamesia, and a loving grandmother to her precious granddaughter, Olivia. Her nurturing spirit and wise counsel were a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew her.

Throughout her life, Debroah was known for her generosity and her ability to make everyone feel special. Whether she was cooking a family meal, volunteering in her community, or offering a listening ear, her kindness touched many lives.

Debroah's dedication and service were recognized with numerous awards, including the Certificate of Appreciation for Patriotic Civil Service, the Dr. Mary E. Walker Award for Volunteerism, and the Department of the Army's Commander's Award for Public Service.

Debroah is survived by her beloved husband, Artis; her children, Terrance (Amy) and Jamesia (Terrance); her granddaughter, Olivia and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Her legacy of love and compassion will live on in the hearts of those she left behind.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association, a cause that was close to the family's heart.

Debroah's memory will forever be a beacon of love and hope. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

The Homegoing Celebration for Mrs. Debroah Hicks will be held on Wednesday, January 15, 2025 at 1:30 PM Graveside at Ft. Mitchell National Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday 3:00 until 6:00 PM at Progressive. Online condolences and guest book signing may be made at progressivefuneral.com. My sincere condolences and prayers to my sweet friend's family and friends. Deborah and I met while in elementary school. She always gave me a warm hug when our paths crossed later in life. Her presence will surely be felt by all who loved and admired her welcoming and peaceful spirit.
