Edwards Small Mortuary announces with our deepest sympathy the passing of Dedrea P. Adkins McCrary on Tuesday, October 3rd. Our condolences to the loved ones.
REMEMBERING DEDREA
On August 10, 1967, God blessed Sham and Mary Cosby Adkins of Fort Valley, Georgia with a beautiful baby girl whom they named Dedrea Pierre Adkins.
On Tuesday, October 3, 2023, while surrounded by her loving family she departed from this life while a patient at Houston Health Care in Warner Robins, Georgia.
Dedrea received her early education from the Peach County School District. After completing all requirements for her high school diploma in 1985, she chose to continue her education by enrolling at Fort Valley State University. She earned several degrees: first, a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology, followed by a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and later, an Education Specialist Degree.
During her career as an educator, she was employed by the Bibb County School District in Macon, Georgia where she served as Assistant Principal at Burghard Elementary School for 17 years before retiring. On February 14, 1996 she was joined in Holy Matrimony to the love of her life, Alfred McCrary . Prior to losing her sight, she enjoyed reading all types of literature and watching TV. Dedrea was a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. Dedrea was preceded in death by her father, Sham Adkins ; sister, Shamvetta Adkins and niece, Brittany Adkins. Dedrea is survived by her devoted husband, Alfred McCrary; mother, Mary Adkins; sons: Sheridan Cliett, Roderick Washington, Marque McCrary; sisters: Karen Jones (Troy), and Tara Adkins Wise; brothers: Donnie McCrary, Steve McCrary and Stanley McCrary; nieces: Tiara, Taylor, T’Erica, Tyler, London, Danielle and Nicole.
