CHARLOTTE – On Tuesday, November 21, 2023, Mrs. Deirdre “Dee” Stone Harward, 88, passed away peacefully at Clear Creek Nursing and Rehab in Mint Hill.
Dee was born in Miami, FL on June 5, 1935, and was a daughter of the late Mima K. Fenwick Stone and the late Edward Martin Stone who were both from Indiana. She was a 1952 graduate of Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, LA. She also attended Southeastern College in Hammond, LA, as well as Little Rock Junior College in Arkansas.
On June 4, 1967, she married John Adams “Johnny” Harward, son of the late Thomas Frank Harward and the late Neta Helms Harward of Ansonville, NC and they were married 50 years at the time of his passing.
Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lisa H. Cummiskey (Richard); her son, John A. “Jay” Harward, Jr. (Cheryl); her grandson, Richie Cummiskey (Lorena); her granddaughter, Kimi Cummiskey; her great-grandson, RJ; her sister, Jean Stone Crocker Deering and husbnnd, Andy; her niece, Betsy Crocker Thomason and family; her nephew, Marty Stone and family; her nieces, Louise Thomas (Edwin), Frances Radford (Dennis), Pam Mihalfyi (Marty) and Carolyn Harward and their families and her extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister and brother, Anne Stone Rockfisher and Edward Martin “Butch” Stone, Jr.
There will be a memorial service at 2:00 PM Sunday, December 3, 2023, in the Chapel of Leavitt Funeral Home. The family will greet friends following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorials be made to Friendship Trays Loaves and Fishes, PO Box 680791, Charlotte, NC 28216.
