Delane was born on April 4, 1949 in Lake City, SC, to Jimmy and Mildred DeWitt. She was the middle of three daughters deeply loved by their parents. Delane was a graduate of Lake City High School and went on to earn a degree in Education from the University of South Carolina. She was an avid Gamecocks fan and watched all the games to pull for her team.
Delane was a teacher at heart who made many friends throughout her teaching career and impacted many young minds. She retired from the Charleston County School District after teaching for 28 years. After retiring, she became trained as a volunteer to help adults learn how to read due to her passion for literacy.
Delane was best known for loving antiques and going "junking" in local shops. She also loved the beach and rented a house at Folly Beach for several summers to make memories with her grandkids. She enjoyed reading, learned to knit and in her later years, she took great joy in caring for her mother, Mama Dee. Delane was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and a member of the Love Circle group.
Delane was a proud mom of her three children and seven grandchildren. She is survived by her children, Jason McCabe (Amy), Ford McCabe and Kelly Vaughn (Jamie), all of Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Ellie Robinson (KeJuan), Molly McCabe, Kate McCabe, Curren McCabe, Sadie McCabe, Jake Vaughn and Grady Vaughn; two sisters, Diane Beacham (Lowrie) of Efland, NC and Denise Floyd (J. Wes) of Charleston, SC.
Delane is preceded in death by Willys James DeWitt and Mildred DeWitt of Lake City, SC.
Delane has a large family of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends that supported her.
The family would like to thank the many caregivers and staff for their care of Delane in recent months.
The service for Delane will be hed at 11:00 AM, Monday, September 15, 2025, at Grace United Methodist Church in Charleston, SC. Her burial will be a private family ceremony in Lake City, SC.
