GOUVERNEUR/HERMON – Delbert "Josh" W. Brown, age 91, formerly of Gouverneur and Hermon, passed away on August 10, 2025 at home in Antwerp.

He will have a private burial in the Hermon Cemetery. Arrangements are with French Funeral Home in Gouverneur. Condolences may be made online at www.frenchfuneralhomes.com.

Josh was born on January 19, 1934 in Evans Mills to the late Karl D. and Goldie E. (Fuller) Brown. He attended the Marshville Country School near Hermon and served in the United States Army from 1955 – 1957 and the Army Reserves until 1962.

Josh worked for the St. Lawrence County Highway Department, St. Joe Minerals for a short time, Kraft Foods in Canton, and for Gouverneur Iron Works as a welder until becoming disabled on the job. He also worked with Mike Filiatrault calibrating bulk milk tanks.

Josh enjoyed gardening, carpentry, hunting and trapping. He was a member of the Amvets in DeKalb and a former member of the Hermon Fire Department.

He is survived by his children, Delbert Brown Jr. (Lynn), Timothy Brown, Dorothea Weatherhead, Avery Brown (Sherry), Matthew Brown (Kathy), and Rita Stevens (Jay), siblings, David Brown, Frank Brown, and Romona Rafter, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Josh is predeceased by an infant son, Dwayne Brown, and siblings, Ernest, Weldon, Bob, Clifford and Ronald Brown, Daphne Filiatrault, Thelma McCready, Isabel Lewis, Wanda Jackson, Rosemary Brown and Bonnie Barker.

Donations in memory of Josh may be made to the Disabled American Veterans.
