Delbert Jackson Garrett, Sr, 78 of Lunenburg Courthouse, VA passed away at home surrounded by his family.

 

He was a devoted family man who cherished spending time with his large family and beloved cats Gary and Cleo. He enjoyed taking day trips with his family, gardening and fishing. He served the community by volunteering as a firefighter/paramedic for over 40 years. Bert taught and mentored medical staff and EMS personnel around the state of Virginia. He worked for over 30 years with the Department of Corrections as a paramedic, physician’s assistant, and safety specialist. He received multiple Governors Awards for his EMS service and contributions made to DOC.

 

He was preceded in death by his father, Sandy Garrett, mother, Effie Garrett, and wife, Sandra Garrett.

 

He is survived by his brothers Sandy Garrett Jr. (Nancy), Edward Garrett (Dorothy), and sister, Janet Hipps. His children Letitia Cline, Dina Mobley (Kevin), and Delbert Garrett, Jr. (Kim). Five grandchildren, Dustin (Katie), Keith (Eden), Jay (Kelsey), Heather (Austin), and Jonah. Thirteen great grandchildren Kali, Nathan, Dylan, Emily, Wyatt, Isabella, Carrigan, Maverick, Oakleigh, Remington, Esther, Celestia, and Aurora.

 

A private service will be held at a later date.

 

Donations can be made in his honor to Lunenburg Animal Shelter or Victoria Fire & Rescue.

 

Arrangements are by Williams Funeral Home & Crematory of Lawrenceville, VA.
