Delbert Price Moore, age 57, of
Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Sunday, September 28, 2025, at his home.
Delbert Moore was born on February 16, 1968, in New Bloomfield, Missouri, the youngest of seven children to the late Henry and Katherine (Jones) Moore. A lifelong Mid-Missourian, Delbert grew up in a small town where, through his own determination, he taught himself the values and lessons that shaped the man he became.
On November 24, 1987, Delbert proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. While serving, his role was in the kitchen preparing meals for his fellow soldiers-a responsibility that sparked a lifelong love of cooking. After separating from the Navy in 1989, he returned home and built a solid career in construction, spending more than 30 years building homes with his own two hands. His strength, skill, and determination made him not only successful in his trade but also the go-to man for fixing things around the house.
On June 2, 2001, Delbert was united in marriage to Laura Shelley. Together they welcomed twins, the greatest joy of his life. He also played a meaningful role in helping raise Laura's children from a previous relationship, extending his care and support beyond his own. Though the marriage ended, Delbert and Laura remained friends, always united in their love for their children.
Delbert was a man who lived fully and simply. He loved the outdoors-whether camping, taking long walks, or enjoying time by the creek. He had a passion for cooking, especially grilling and barbecuing for friends and family, where he was known for making a "mean burger." His favorite dish, however, was always Laura's lasagna, a request that never faded. Delbert loved music, whether singing karaoke, dancing the night away at Midway in Columbia in his younger years, or simply sharing a laugh with those around him. Poker nights, family BBQs, and cherished trips, like the one to Dollywood, filled his life with joy.
He had a quick wit, a warm laugh, and a stubborn streak that those who loved him knew well. A jokester at heart, he also carried a depth of wisdom shaped by his own challenges. His children will remember him most for the guidance he provided and the times he stood by them-encouraging them to embrace life's simple pleasures, from climbing trees to splashing in creeks.
Delbert had a soft spot for animals, especially his beloved dog, JoJo, who passed before him. He was strong, full of life, and always ready to share a smile. Above all, he will be remembered for the laughter he brought, the lessons he left behind, and the way he touched the lives of his family and friends.
Though he may no longer walk among us, Delbert's laughter, love, and legacy will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew him.
Survivors include his children, Jonathan Price and Kayla May (fiancée, John); one granddaughter, Isabelle May; four stepchildren, Mark, Melissa, Daniel, and Jennifer; and his former wife and friend, Laura Meives (Matthew).
He was preceded in death by his parents .
Private family services will be held at a later date.
