Della Rebecca Cathcart

Della Rebecca Cathcart, 69, of Carthage, passed away on November 19, 2025 at Community East Hospital in Indianapolis. She was born August 3, 1956 in New Castle, Indiana to Ellen (Todd) and Earl Garland.

To help provide for her family she held several positions over the years, in addition to being a mother, a wife, a best friend and a homemaker. Adept at working with her hands, she became a line manager in a typewriter factory in the late 70’s. Towards the end of her career she helped elderly and disabled individuals in their homes. She was grateful and proud to be a CNA working with memory care residents.

Above all, Della loved her family and friends. She understood how complex and simple life could be at the same time. Her way was to give, not take. She liked the basic, natural things; flowers, a clover field in bloom, a long walk down the road, looking up at the moon and stars, the clouds at sunset…

Della Rebecca is survived by her husband, Charles; daughters, Jenny (Erik) Bartlam of Brandon, Mississippi and Beth Matney of Bloomington, Indiana; brother, Mike (Barb) Garland of Greenfield, Indiana and sister Sara Douglas of Lebanon, Missouri; six grandchildren, one great granddaughter and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends; sisters in law, Patty, Janine, Kim and Shelly; brothers in law, Tom, Bob and Bill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Jason; daughter, Laura; sisters, Betty and Jewel; brother, Norman, and very recently, brother, David (Sara) Garland; brother in law, Joe.

Services will be held at 2:30 pm Wednesday, December 10, 2025 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service, Knightstown Chapel with Father Michael Puthumaisavari presiding. Visitation will be from 10:00 am until the time of the service. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Breast Cancer Research, 28 W. 44th St, #609, New York, New York 10036 or a local food pantry of your choice.
