Della Mae Smith of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the age of 95.
Della Mae was born in Catoosa, Oklahoma to Jean Benjamin Hamilton and Cirtis Livingston Hamilton on May 20, 1929. She and Hugh Leroy Smith were married in Claremore, Oklahoma on March 27,1948. They were married for 53 years before his passing in 2002. Together they moved to Bressie Community in 1950 to manage a dairy farm for John Eaton, they then moved to their present home in Osage County in 1961 where they enjoyed farm life thoroughly.
Della Mae was the loving mother of Michael Eugene Smith and Martin Lee Smith. She raised both boys to lead outstanding lives of service to God and community.
Della Mae dedicated her life to helping others by doing independent home healthcare for a number of years; she later worked at Conoco, retiring May 1, 1985.
Della Mae loved going to flea markets and antique malls. She enjoyed cooking and baking, often sharing her delicious handiwork with family, friends, and neighbors. “The Price Is Right” was her favorite show.
She is survived by her son Martin Lee and his wife Paige Marsh-Smith and their son Isaac of Ponca City; granddaughter Kenya Smith Howarth and her husband Phil of Ridgeway, South Carolina; grandson James (Jimmy) Smith and his wife Stacie of Ponca City. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren: Rachel Smith Shoptese and her wife Mollie; Madison Smith, Wyatt Smith, and Cashlynn Smith of Ponca City. Della Mae also had many loving nieces and nephews, especially Doug Smith of Ponca City. And she also had three great-great-grandchildren!
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son Micheal Eugene, eight brothers and sisters, a daughter-in-law, six nephews, and one niece.
Gravesite service will be at 10:00 am, Thursday, March 13th, 2025, at Longwood Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma; Memorial will follow at Crestview Baptist Church at 11:00 am. Thursday, March 13, 2025.
Those Wishing to honor her memory may make a donation to Crestview Baptist Church where she was a faithful member who always brought the pea salad.
