Della Miller Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McPherson Funeral Services, Inc. - Milford on Dec. 30, 2025.
Della Mae Miller was born on September 14, 1941, in Newark, Maryland to parents, the late Olivia Bundick Jacobs and Emerson Purnell.

She was lovingly raised by her grandparents, the late Hattie and Hezekiah Bundick, who instilled in her strong values of faith, education, and the love for family that guided her throughout her life.

Della Mae attended the prestigious William C. Jason Comprehensive High School, where she graduated in the year 1960.

From an early age, she had a lifelong love of reading and writing. She was proudly left-handed and known for her beautiful, meticulous penmanship, a reflection of her creativity and attention to detail.

She found true purpose in caring for others through her work in caregiving, a role she embraced with compassion, patience, and selflessness. A faithful servant of God, Della Mae cherished her relationship with Him and lived her life guided by faith, kindness, and love for those around her.

Della Mae was a devoted member of St. George's AME Church for many years, where she faithfully served on numerous committees, including as a Delegate for the AME conference, as a Financial Secretary and a member of the Women's Day Committee. Her commitment to her church family was a true reflection of her servant's heart.

Della Mae gained her wings on the morning of December 19, 2025, surrounded by her children. Della Mae was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Purnell and Carolyn Fassett; and her great-grandson, Kyliek Banks.

She leaves to cherish her memory her children, Sheri Miller, Vanessa Jackson (Ray), Shervina Miller (Anthony), Anthony Miller (Munsel); her sisters Barbara Ellis, Ozelle Williams, Yvonne Williams and Maxine Wright; her brothers Robert Lee Bundick, and Rayfield Purnell; her special cousins, Joyce Pitts and Deborah Trammell; her 10 grandchildren, Kecia "Peachy" Williams (Kevin), Tetra S. Shockley (Jerome), La Toya Hendrix (David), Larry Miller (Inez), Antonia Jones (D'Angela), Anika Howell (Justin), Raymond Jackson, Jr. (Michelle), Je'Nae Drew, Shaquille Jones, and Nahja Kimbrough; 24 great-grandchildren; an Uncle Rev. Braven O. Duffie, and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friend Larry Williams.

She will be lovingly remembered for her deep love for family, her beautiful smile, contagious laugh, unwavering faith, her well-known love for cake and the joy she brought when she performed her unforgettable "shovel dance."

Della Mae and her legacy will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Home Going celebration will be held on January 3rd, 2026, at 12p at Trinity Faith Christian Center, Lewes, Delaware
