Della Sauvageot Obituary

of St. Albans, WV, passed away on July 21, 2023 after a long, well-fought battle with pulmonary disease. Della was born August 27, 1940 to Robert Edward and Mary Elizabeth Allison and graduated from Stonewall Jackson High School in 1958. At that time, she married the love of her life, George Alderson Sauvageot. She was a devoted and loving wife for over 65 years.

As a homemaker, wife, mother, and friend she had a quiet strength, sacrificing her needs many times for the good of her family and always striving to make a lovely home for them. She actively followed all her children's and grandchildren's athletic and leisure activities, cheering them on with a big smile and encouraging words. All the kids went to "Granny" for her wise and kind advice. She had the "patience of a saint."

After her children started school, she worked a variety of part-time jobs, then attended the Charleston School of Beauty and became owner/operator of the Hair Palace located in St. Albans. She loved her clients and enjoyed making them feel beautiful. Following the close of the business, she continued to style her clients' hair in the basement of her home. After retiring, she became a volunteer at the Hansford Community Center in St. Albans. Her greatest delight was working with technology and helping others learn as well. Everyone went to Della with any computer questions or needs they had; family included. Her other hobbies included sewing and collecting glassware. She was an avid shopper, keeping the postal service hopping with deliveries. She was also active with "Aldy" in the WV Gold Wing Road Riders Association, riding all over the country attending rallies and other Gold Wing charitable events with some of their closest friends.

Della was preceded in death by her parents and sibling, brother, Robert E. Allison, Jr. She is survived by her loving children, sons, Robert (Beth) of Tornado, Michael (Terry) of South Charleston, Thomas (Bev) of Barboursville and daughter Beverly Veno of Dunbar. She was a loving grandmother to Larissa (Marcus), Chris and Donnie Sauvageot, Valerie and Cassie Stephens, Elizabeth (David) Patrick, Emily (Jake) Woolwine, Holly (McKinley) Conrad, Olivia and Katherine Sauvageot, Alisha (Jonathan) Dierdorff, and Andy (Abi) Caudill, as well as many great and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A memorial service to honor Della's life will be held at Bartlett-Nichols Funeral Home, St. Albans on Sunday, August 6, 2023 at 4:00pm, with visitation one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Kanawha Hospice Care (1606 Kanawha Blvd. W., Charleston, WV 25387) or a charity of your choice.
