Delmar Norbert Nilges, age 84, of Mexico, Missouri, passed away on March 28, 2024, at Missouri Veterans Home, in Mexico, Missouri.
Delmar was born on January 18, 1940, in St. Thomas, Missouri, to Herman and Sarah (Gerling) Nilges. He graduated from Helias High School in 1958 and from Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Missouri in 1972 with a degree in Business Administration.
In 1972, he moved to Lenexa, KS and accepted a position in Manufacturing Management. He worked in management for several large manufacturers over a period of 40 years. Later he accepted a manufacturing position with the Missouri Department of Corrections. He was the Plant Manager II for 13 ½ years with the Missouri Vocational Enterprises Division at the Moberly Correctional Center in Moberly, MO. During his retirement years, he enjoyed traveling, RVing, and managing campgrounds.
He served his country in the United States Army from 1958 to 1962as a Specialist E-4 Communications on a Guided Missile site in Germany. Delmar was a member of Moose Lodge 776 since 1977 and a member of the American Legion Post 6 since 1972.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Sarah (Gerling) Nilges, siblings; Marcellus Joseph Nilges, Linus Henry Nilges, Melvin Fredric Nilges, infant Delores Mary Nilges and Gilbert Fredric Nilges.
Delmar is survived by his two sons and three daughters, Jorg Nilges, Rockford, IL; Uta (Nilges) Abate, John Abate of Winnebago, IL, Rebecca (Nilges) Seaton, Gary Seaton, Belvidere, IL, Robert and Julie (Dakarian) Nilges of Florida, Melba (Nilges) Lightcap and Scott Lightcap of Crystal River, FL; grandchildren, Corey Seaton, Branton Lightcap, Derek Seaton, Trevor Lightcap, Taylor Parlapiano-Miucci and Layla Seaton; great-grandchildren, Blakely Rose-Marie Miuccio and Willow Lee Lightcap; several nieces, nephews and sister in-laws.
There will be two visitations held in honor of Delmar, one being held from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, April, 8, 2024, at Houser Millard Funeral Directors 2613 W. Main St., Jefferson City, MO 65109. The second visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Pathway-Millard Family Funeral Chapel 411 Union Ave., Moberly, MO 65270. Military honors and interment to follow the Tuesday Visitation at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO, at 2:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that all memorial contributions in honor of Delmar are made to the Mexico Veterans Home at 1 Veterans Dr. Mexico, MO 65265.
