"It's not my place to question, only God knows why.
I'm just jealous of the angels, around the throne tonight"
Excerpt from song "Jealous of the Angels", Sung by Donna Taggart
Sealey "Delores" Lamson, passed away peacefully at home on August 11, 2025, following a short illness after living for 32,853 days following her birth in Chester, Oklahoma. During her childhood, she traveled between Oklahoma and California. She lived also lived briefly in Arizona, and spent most of her adult years in California, Oregon and Idaho.
While in high school, she married Joe Hiatt, and together they had two children, Ron (who she always was happy to tell you, "Graduated high school with me.") and Kim. Joe preceded her in death in 1970. Delores found her forever love, and on September 2, 1972, married Bill (in spite of when he called her for their first date, she said, "Bill, who?")
Delores is survived by Bill, her loving husband of 53 years; son Ron Hiatt (Deb), and daughter, Kim White (Steve); five grandchildren - Taunia, Jennifer, Kayla (James), Jami (Joel), and Cody (Kim), nine great-grandchildren, and two much-loved cats. Her beloved grandson, Dustin, preceded her in death.
Everyone who knew Delores, knew of her special love for cats, hummingbirds, flowers, dancing, music, travel, and most and foremost - her family. She enjoyed their outings with Ron and Deb, and her frequent calls from Kim. "Nana" spent special one-on-one time with Jami working on the family tree and memoirs; cheered Cody on during his many years of top dragster racing - both locally and out-of-state; lovingly supported Taunia, making up for lost time over the years; and looked forward to when Kayla visited from Texas, as well as calls from Kayla and Jennifer. All the grandkids adored their Nana, who had them convinced she was a doctor, had eyes in the back of her head, and who didn't know she had a "real" first and last name until they were teenagers.
Delores and Bill loved to travel – her favorite times being spent in Maui with family members, on cruises to Europe and the Caribbean, as well as trips across the U.S., collecting Native American artifacts and jewelry along the way. But she also loved the simplicity of life – whether she was just sitting with Bill on the porch at their cabin in Cascade drinking a glass of wine, listening to the birds and tending to their "pet" fox; nurturing her beautiful flower garden in the back yard of their home in Grants Pass, Oregon; attending kids' school programs and sports events in Boise; or merely staying home and having an evening nightcap in the quietness of their house in Nampa.
Delores was happy anywhere and doing anything, as long as Bill was by her side. He was her hero – especially the time he left work to rescue her off their kitchen table (while she held a knife) because she'd called that a mouse had scurried across the floor! She often reminisced about their early days together when Bill sang in barbershop quartet as she loved listening to him sing and strum his guitar.
Delores also loved to dance with Bill, and as anyone could tell you, watching them dance together was a reflection of the deep love they had for each other. They were always in perfect harmony and would look at each other with love in their eyes as they glided perfectly across the dance floor.
Delores worked a short time as a beautician and as a real estate agent, but her most fulfilling job was bookkeeper for Boise Refrigeration Service Co., which she and Bill, along with Ron and Deb, started in 1983. She was always happy that BRSC stayed with the family and is currently being run by their two grandchildren, Jami and Cody.
She and Bill shared their love of classic cars, attending car shows, and participating in week-long car cruises across the western states and Canada. One of their proudest moments was when they took both cars to Fifties Fever in Winnemucca and each of their cars won the Best of Class award. But, rest assured, Delores would be the first to let you know that the blue Cabriolet was HER car, not his! Their appreciation of cars has carried down through their son to Cody and Jami, and now to Spencer and Atticus, their great-grandsons, who have inherited their appreciation of all cars - especially the "oldies, but goodies".
In lieu of flowers or meals, the family would prefer memorials be sent to
Best Friends Animal Society, a partner of the Idaho Humane Society.
Delores' family will host a celebration of her life on September 2, starting at 10:30 a.m., at the Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel in Nampa. At Noon, there will be a procession of hot rods and sports cars to the Idaho Veteran's Cemetery, 10100 Horseshoe Bend Rd., Boise. Friends are welcome to join the procession. Immediately following a brief ceremony at the VA Cemetery, guests are welcome to join the family at the Dunning Estates Winery, 19937 Vino Lane, Caldwell (Sunnyslope area).
Delores will be remembered as a devoted wife, proud mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, full of kindness and love, and will be dearly missed by all of us. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the memories she leaves behind.
A BROKEN CHAIN
We little knew that morning,
God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly,
in death we do the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
you did not go alone,
for part of us went with you,
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories,
your love is still our guide,
and though we cannot see you,
you are always at our side.
Our family chain is broken,
and nothing seems the same,
but as God calls us one by one,
the chain will link again.
