Deloris Compson Obituary
Deloris was born March 27, 1928 at Yellow Medicine County Minnesota, the daughter of Olaf and Cora (Oakland) Winson. She moved with her family at the age of 1year old to Barnes County and lived in the Kathryn and Fingal area. She attended Nelson School #32 near Fingal through the 8th grade. The family later moved to Valley City, ND, where she met and married Robert Compson December 14, 1946. They lived near Valley City ND for some time and then moved to Fingal ND for several years, then moved to Sheldon ND, where they farmed until Robert passed away March 21, 1986. She later moved to Wahpeton ND to live with her daughter Judy & son-in-law Ken.
Deloris worked at the Land O Lakes turkey processing plant in Valley City, ND. When the family moved to Sheldon, she worked at Dahlgrens Bird Seed Plant in Lisbon as a supervisor. She was a member of the Anselm Trinity Lutheran Church in rural Sheldon ND.
She enjoyed her family and gatherings, especially Christmas. She loved to grow flowers and vegetables, loved her apple trees at the farm along with her lilac trees and weeping willows. She would do a lot of canning of dill pickles and tomatoes. She loved watching Wheel of Fortune and she enjoyed her trips to Dayton, WA to visit her son and daughter-in-law, spent time in Cozad, NE to visit her sister Ruby and Ruby's husband George. It was great times.
She is survived by her children, Judy (Ken) Knudson Wahpeton ND, Renee Compson Fairmount ND, Rodd (Doreen) Compson Jamestown ND, Billy Compson Fargo ND, sister Irene Handt, Valley City, brother-in-law Ralph (Janice) Compson Valley City ND, sister-in-law, Kathy Winson, Jamestown, ND, good friends, Marilyn Beck, West Fargo ND and Janice Erbstoesser, Fargo, ND, 14 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, 21 great-great grandchildren with 2 more on the way. Many nieces and nephews and those who called her friend.
She was preceded in death by her husband Robert, her parents Olaf & Cora, sons Oral and Robin, brothers Pvt Oral Winson, Walter, Lloyd and sisters Charlotte and Ruby.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 19, 2025 from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00 at Anselm Lutheran Church near Sheldon. Burial will be at Anselm Lutheran Cemetery. The funeral will be live streamed below.
