Delouris Joan Vandergrift

Delouris Joan Vandergrift passed away peacefully on November 7, 2025, in Bridgeport, WV, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Granville, WV, on April 16, 1934, to Everett Roy Sigley and Rita Maxine Ennis Sigley, both of whom preceded her in death. Joan was a cherished member of her family, which mourns her passing but also celebrates her rich and fruitful life.
Growing up in West Virginia, Joan was fortunate to be embraced by a loving family. Her journey took her from the nurturing arms of her parents, to walking down the aisle with her beloved husband, the late Haymond Burl Vandergrift. In her sister Nancy Lee Nutter's memory, she constantly emulated a spirit of familial love and dedication. Though her heart ached at the passing of her loved ones, Joan never wavered in her support for the remaining family, including her brother Everett Loyd Sigley and the many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews, who will always remember her warm presence.
Joan's professional life was marked by a steadfast commitment to her duties as head cashier at Montgomery Ward, where she not only managed her responsibilities with skill but also made many lasting friendships. After retiring, she became an active and devoted member of the Union United Methodist Church in Salisbury, MD, her faith deeply entwined in her everyday life and in her approach to community service.
Joan's family would like to extend their appreciation to the many nurses and aids of Amedisys hospice who assisted them in caring for Joan in the last 2 years. They would also like to send a special Thanks to her Personal Caregiver and Friend Mrs. Mary Streets of Rosemont, WV.

Family and friends are welcomed to gather and pay their respects to Joan at McCulla Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 11, 2025, from 4 pm - 7 pm, and again on Wednesday from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service time. Pastor Dewaine Corley will lead the service, honoring the life and spirit of Delouris Joan Vandergrift. Her final resting place will be at East Oak Grove Cemetery, where she will be laid to rest.
