Delphine Clair of Fort Washakie died at Lander Regional Hospital on January 2, 2013 at the age of 83. Traditional Indian Funeral Services were held at 12 noon, Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Rocky Mountain Hall at Fort Washakie with Arlen & Harrison Shoyo Jr. officiating. An evening service was held from 7-9 pm on Monday, January 7, 2013 at Rocky Mountain Hall with a wake to follow at the family residence, 39 Engavo Lane, Fort Washakie. Interment then followed in the Clair Family Cemetery, Engavo Lane, Fort Washakie. Delphine Clair was born September 4, 1929 in Fort Washakie the son of the late Ida Engavo Nacota and Dan Clair. He lived most of his life on the Wind River Indian Reservation. He attended the Government School in Fort Washakie. He worked for the BIA police department in 1957. Following that he was a Game Warden for the Shoshone & Arapaho Tribes, Shoshone & Arapaho Housing, Eastern Shosone Housing. He was still employed with the Eastern Shoshone Tribe – Tribal Historic Preservation. Mr. Clair participated in the One Shot Antelope Hunt, Gift of Water Pageant, and the Medicine Wheel Alliance. He also help founded the Wyoming Indian High School at Ethete, Wyoming. His family said he enjoyed being around his family, grandchildren, friends, hunting, ice fishing, traveling, watching western movies. He also enjoyed watching his grandson Tony play Basketball in High School as well in college. He traveled from state to state just to watch him play. Delphine was a great man with a great sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Anita Clair, his children; daughters, Carmeletta and George Redman, Delta Azbill, Connie Clair, Patricia Clair; sons, Jason Clair, Jackson & Tonya Clair, Mike Muniz; sisters, Milinda Perry, Vera Buckman, Gwenn Plain Bull; brothers, Dan, Walter, Clayton, and Larry Old Elk from Crow Agency, Montana. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins from: Wyoming, Utah, Montana, and Idaho. He was preceded in death by his son, Shawn D. Clair; parents, Ida Engavo and Dan Clair, Thomas Clair; brothers, Tony and Sam Engavo; sisters, Lydia Clair, Mable Tinno, Alice Nacota, Iva Nacota, Mattie Engavo Meeks; uncles Harry and Richard Engavo, George and Evelyn Old Elk; aunts, Nelly Engavo Clair; grandchildren, Winston "Chiefy" Spoonhunter, Sharla Clair, Lawerance Lincoln, Walt Jay Big Knife, Madison Clair; son-in-law, Marvin Azbill.
