Demar is survived by his daughter, Deb (Christopher) Butzer of Gibbon; sons, Danny (Kris) Barfknecht of New Ulm, Dana (Amy) Barfknecht of Staples; two grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brother, Arlan (Sue) Barfknecht of Hutchinson; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Deloris Barfknecht; parents; siblings, Donald (Muriel) Barfknecht, Dale (Diane) Barfknecht, Daryl Barfknecht, Jean (Jim) Stadther; and sister-in-law, Marlys.

Demar was born March 10, 1935 to Walter and Esther (Becke) Barfknecht in Gaylord. He graduated from Gaylord High School in 1953 and started work as an egg collector for local farms. On August 1, 1957, Demar was united in marriage to Deloris Kramer at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Gibbon. Their union was blessed with three children. In addition to being a husband and father, Demar worked as a manager at Hauser's Lumberyard in Gibbon, Lloyd Plumbing, and the Do-It-Best Center in New Ulm. Outside of work, Demar loved going roller skating and dancing to old time music at various dance halls with Deloris. He was a volunteer firefighter in Gibbon for 31 years, played in many fast pitch softball leagues, and enjoyed deer hunting, playing cards, horse shoes, dice, and just about any activity he could play. As Demar would say, "if you can't have fun, stay home."

Demar will be dearly missed. Blessed be his memory.
