Demetria (Demie) Duran, of
Las Vegas, N.M. was called to rest on January 19, 2023. Demie was born on November 23, 1952 in Leyba, New Mexico where she grew up near the Gonzales Ranch. As a young girl, Demie used to ride horses bareback and would accompany her father throughout the mountainous terrain to fix fences and check on the cattle. She graduated from West Las Vegas High School and resided in
Las Vegas, N.M. She worked at the Bank of Las Vegas for many years. Demie left the bank to own and operate the Campus Restaurant, which became well known for her Enchiladas, Menudo, Quesadillas, and Tortilla Burgers. Demie and Walter owned the A-1 Tire Shop. She became very knowledgeable in all facets of the Tire Shop, from tire brands, sizes, mile ratings, warranties, to balancing. Demie was devoted to her Catholic faith. Her Patron Saint was San Antonio. Together with Walter and Chiquita by her side, they visited all the San Antonio parishes/churches in New Mexico. Demie liked to spend time outdoors and camping. She also enjoyed testing her luck at the casino. Despite her busy schedule, Demie took care of her Father and Mother until they were laid to rest. Demie had a giving heart, she would always sponsor and support local charities', youth organizations and always gave to those in need. Demie liked to watch football and spend time with her family and her grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting with all the A-1 Patrons' and friends. Demie will be missed tremendously and remembered by those who were blessed to have known her.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Hilario and Maria Lopez, her late husband Gilbert Duran, Atilano and Juanita Lovato, her brothers and sisters Esiquel and Agitha Gonzalez, Adolfo and Rita Lopez, Rita Gutierrez, Bennie Barrera, Margaret Hodge, Delfido Lovato, Andres Lovato, Michaelann Cavazos- Perea and Kaitlyn Cavazos, and Norman and Hunter Patterson.
She leaves behind Walter Chavez, her Companion and best friend, Chiquita, her Side Kick, Walter's Daughters; Hope, Catalina and Michael, Catrina, and Carmelita and LV, Grandchildren Chance, Cayden and Collin, Kaitlyn (God Daughter), Alexis and Brandon. Rosary will be held at Immaculate Conception Church on January 25, 2023 @ 7:00 p.m. The mass of resurrection will be celebrated at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 26, 2023 with Father Dennis Garcia as celebrant. Both services will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church in
Las Vegas, New Mexico with the following serving as Pallbearers; Rueben Gonzales, LV Samayoa, Michael Martinez, Brian Maestas, Josh Unruh, Dante Aragon, Marco Aragon and Gabriel Lopez.
