Demetrio A. Peguero

Dr. Demetrio (Pancho) Peguero, age 93, of Vestal, New York, passed away peacefully at his home on Friday, May 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 9, 1931, in the Dominican Republic, Demetrio was preceded in death by his beloved wife of many years, Ruth Peguero; his father, Pedro Publio Peguero; his mother, Rosa Blanca Marchena Peguero; his brother, Jose Peguero; his brother-in-law, Victor Cruz; and his cherished aunt, Carida Marchena, who raised him as her own son.
He is survived by his devoted children: Rose, Peter, and Charles Peguero; his sister, Blanca (Grace) Peguero Cruz; his grandchildren: Kattie Grady (Nathaniel), Alexander Bespalko, Tyler Peguero (Teresa), Molly Hanley (Chris), Peter E. Peguero, and Karly Peguero (Kody
Schmeiske); and his great-grandchildren: James Peguero and Galileo (Leo) Grady. He is also survived by numerous dear cousins, nieces, and nephews in the Dominican Republic.
Pancho was an avid reader, after watching several movies of his hero Johnny (Tarzan) Weissmuller he began training in swimming going on to represent the Dominican Republic in the Centro American Games. He also served in the Dominican Army.
After completing his medical studies in the Dominican Republic, Pancho finished his studies to become a surgeon, and proudly completed his dreams of becoming an American Citizen. He started a private surgical practice with Dr. Hayashi, going on to become the ER Director at Ideal Hospital, and finally the Medical Director of IBM Endicott & Owego.
Pancho loved the time he spent at Victor and Ginny Rubin's cottage on Chaumont Bay. He found immense pleasure in hunting at Arbes farm and summers spent at Laurel Lake with his family. His most cherished times were spent with his family at his home for Holiday dinners
Funeral Services will be held 11 am, Saturday, May 31 at the Allen Memorial Home, 511–5 13 East Main Street, Endicott. The family will receive friends at the Allen Memorial Home, Saturday, May 31 from 9 am until service time at 11 am.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Demetrio's memory to either the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the American Heart Association.
