Dempsey "JR" Slaten, age 80 of Louisville, returned to his Heavenly Father on Saturday, September 13, 2025. JR was born in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Margaret and Dempsey Slaten Sr.

JR was a Catholic by faith and a member of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. He was a member of several GMC Motorhome Clubs and very active in all aspects over the years, serving on the board, and as president. JR was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, and Moose International.

JR loved to travel and ride his Harley. He liked to work on Hot Rods and was a Harley enthusiast. He always enjoyed celebrating his birthday a few times throughout the year. He was a kind and loving man that will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jeanne; his daughter, Denise Slaten (Tom Hans); his son, Troy Slaten (Valerie); his grandchildren, who all lovingly called him "Pop", Kelsey, Big T.J. Nikki, Sydney, and TJ; great grandchildren, Brilee, Jon, and Kenzie; his siblings, Pam, Claudette (Richard), and Mark along with a host of dear friends and family.

In keeping with JR's wishes the family has chosen cremation and has entrusted Hardy-Close Funeral Home with his arrangements. A Celebration of JR's Life will be held on his actual birthday Friday, March 6, 2026, at the Eagles Club, 201 Outer Loop, Louisville, KY 40214. Family and friends are all welcomed to help celebrate JR's life and birthday at 6:30 pm with a Fraternal Order of Eagles Ceremony.
