Denis Troy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Wyman-Fisher Funeral Home Inc. - Pearl River on Feb. 9, 2026.
Denis Michael Troy passed away peacefully on February 6th, 2026, at the age of 78, surrounded by his loving family, holding his beloved wife's hand. Born on May 31st, 1947, to the late Catherine and Peter Troy in the Fordham section of the Bronx, Denis was the eldest of three boys.

Denis attended St. Nicholas of Tolentine High School in the Bronx before becoming a proud Jasper at Manhattan College, where he earned a BS in Mathematics. Denis started his career as a Math and Driver Ed teacher at St. Raymond High School in the Bronx before moving into the IT field to work for AT&T/Lucent, IBM, and Rockland County. His true calling, however, was in politics and serving his community, which he did for over 30 years as Rockland County Legislator, Orangetown Councilman, and Deputy Town Supervisor. He loved his hometown and wanted nothing more than to preserve his "little oasis" for his family, his friends, and the generations to come. He consistently gave his time and energy to making the community a better place for everyone.

Denis met the love of his life, Beatrice Rogers, in the Bronx when he walked up to her table at a school dance and asked her to dance. As the family story goes, he was so enamored with her big, bright blue eyes and beautiful black hair that he failed to realize there was a foot-and-a-half height difference between them. She eventually said yes and, after marrying him on April 3rd, 1971, at St. Nicholas of Tolentine Church, became his favorite dance partner for the next 54 years. Denis and Bea began raising their family in Wingdale, NY, before making what he would call "the best decision of their lives" and moving to Pearl River in 1980. It was here that they built "a wonderful life" together, raising their four children.

Denis was a giant among men, not just in stature, but in heart. His favorite roles were beloved husband to Bea; brother to Peter (Diane) and Richard; brother-in-law to Mike Rogers; father to Kathleen (Glenn) of Nyack, Michael (Jennifer) of Pearl River, Daniel (Kristen) of Tappan, and Patrick (Valerie) of Hoboken; and "Grandpa Denis" or "Pop-Pop" to Serafin, Kaitlyn, Reilly, Madelyn, Julia, Brendan, Kieran, Denis, and Colin.

Denis could sit next to a stranger and, within five minutes, know more about them than most people, discover fewer than three degrees of separation between them, become their biggest champion, and make a friend for life. He never forgot a person or their story and greeted everyone with a smile. He was involved in so many facets of the community, and he cultivated a giant network of people whom he would call upon, no matter what side of the aisle, to help when someone was in need or to make sure the right thing was done.

A proud member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division 3, Denis loved Irish history and music, marching in the NYC and Pearl River St. Patrick's Day parades, and traveling to Ireland with family and friends.

The best way to carry his story forward is to show up for everything and everyone that life gives you the opportunity to, and to live out the AOH motto of Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity.

In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made in Denis's name to the AOH Division 3 Family Fund. Checks can be sent to 28 Railroad Avenue, Pearl River, NY 10965 or Venmo payable to @PearlRiverAOH-DivisionIII.
