Denise Antoinette Jackson was born on August 12, 1959. in Charleston, SC, to Delores M. Simmons and Elmore M. Simmons. She was reared in Springfield and Carver, Massachusetts. She was the eldest of seven children: Vera Simmons, Elmore Simmons Jr, Sheila Simmons, Deborah Simmons, Sharon Miller, and Cheryl Simmons. Denise was preceded in death by both parents and siblings, Cheryl and Vera. Denise was the lovingly revered mother of Michael Bonner, Breanna Smith, and Arielle James. She was an adoring and playful Nana to Riley and Mike Jr. and a doting aunt to several nieces and nephews.

After graduation, she attended the University of Amherst and the University of Boston but stopped her studies to enlist in the United States Army. As a medical specialist (Field nurse) and behavioral science specialist, Denise earned many accolades, including winning Soldier of the Month. After 12 years of service, she retired as an E-5 (Sergeant). She went on to finish her studies at Fayetteville State University, earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, but her love for children brought her to a career in teaching. Denise taught Middle School Spanish and then later worked with children with special needs. She was glamorous and alluring, possessed a stunning beauty cultivated from within, and carried herself with an air of grace, elegance, and refinement. She greeted you with warmth and a gorgeous smile, gave the best hugs, and enjoyed friendly banter.

Her passion for glamor came full circle when she became a Mary Kay consultant. She loved talking to potential customers anyplace she was and gave her all to building her team and promoting the business. Denise had a deep love for the arts. Locally, she performed with jazz artists, recited poetry/monologues, and participated in local theater productions. She loved laughing, dancing, singing, working in her garden, entertaining friends, and chatting on the phone for hours. In her last moments, she was surrounded by her beloved children and her incredible, stalwart fiancée, listening to some of her favorite songs. She was family-oriented and lived a life that she cherished, often believing in her values, which she loved unconditionally and dearly. Denise truly loved the Lord, her family, and her friends. We can only imagine how wonderful it is for her to be in God's presence and receive His glory. Denise is loved and cherished, and her memory will live on in many hearts forever.
