Dennis Ray Bathon, 75, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 11:53 am February 15, 2025 at his residence with his family by his side. He was born August 5, 1949 in DuQuoin, Illinois to the late Albert and Emalie (Dudek) Bathon. Dennis married Faye (Jones) Bathon on September 17, 1977.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife of forty-seven years, Faye Bathon; son, Tim Bathon and wife, Melissa of Mount Vernon; granddaughter, Anna Bathon; brother, Maurice "Joe" Bathon and wife, Linda of Maryville, Tennessee; sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Wilson and husband, Dennis of Herrin, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Dennis was preceded in death by his brother, Dale Bathon
After graduating high school, Dennis attended Southern Illinois University and graduated with a degree in accounting in 1971. He then went on to serve his country in the United States Army from 1972 to 1975 at Fort Hood Texas. In 1986, Dennis and his family moved to Mount Vernon, Illinois where they became members of Saint Mary's Catholic Church. He was a very active member within the church and school for many years. In 1987, he became part of The Boy Scouts of America and participated within the scouts for many years. This included taking multiple trips to Philmont Scout Ranch, being a scout leader for many years for Troop 103, and was also employed as a District Executive.
A Visitation will be held Sunday, February 23, 2025 from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held Monday, February 24, 2025 at 10:00 am at Saint Mary Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois with Monsignor David Darin officiating. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois where full military rites will be held by American Legion Post #141. Memorials may be made in Dennis' honor to Boy Scout Troop 153.
